Reducing friction for users who want to get a sick note online
During the last 18 months, I worked on several initiatives around sick notes. Sick notes play an essential role in the German healthcare and employment system. Unfortunately, there are a lot of rules and regulations around it (typical German), so I thought a quick intro might be helpful to understand the value of the initiatives I included in my portfolio.

Depending on the conditions in the employment contract, employers ask for a sick note issued by a doctor either on the first or third day an employee is off ill. Students and pupils might also require a sick note for university or school when they are off sick for longer or can't attend an exam.

In spring 2020, ZAVA launched an app in Germany. Through the ZAVA app, patients can book appointments and speak to a doctor via video consultation. The consultation itself works very similarly to a local doctor visit, except that the doctor can't examine the patient physically. Still, they can prescribe medication and, most importantly, issue sick notes.
